Shirt shrinking results
A couple of days ago I posted an experiment at shrinking cotton XL shirts that were way too big
I am quite pleased. After loosing nearly 25 pounds since mid December, my knit shirts were swallowing me. (Actually have been for years but really exacerbated by this recent weight loss round). After reading several articles (the article’s method I used primarily can be found within Monday’s post attached). I took 2 Ralph Lauren polos (eggplant and pink). Two other polos (a blue Calloway and a blueish grey Normal Brand both short sleeve polos). And two long sleeve cotton heavier weight long sleeves (one a chocolate brown Southern Tide and a Mackenzie tribe in Bright red).
Basically I boiled a giant pot of water, sorted them by color then separated the shirts into three buckets (one was a small ice cooler). After letting them sit in the hot water for 20 minutes I added a capful of vinegar into each bucket to protect them from fading. And let them sit another 20 minutes. Then I threw all but the pink and red ( did them separately later) into a super hot water (normally only for whites) setting for a couple of cycles in the washer. Then a long super hot dryer setting (90 minutes). These shirts were originally hanging off my shoulders by three plus inches in some cases so I basically had nothing to lose.
Here are the results:
The 2-3 inch over hangs past my shoulder points reduced down to 1/2 to 1” still slightly large on all but the red. (It is a weird design fits every where but the shoulders from the get go so probably shouldn’t have bought it). The sleeves on the chocolate quarterzip finally fit correctly and the body fits pretty well. Speaking of the body I would say that over all the entire shirt in each case came down at least a couple of inches. So I’m am very pleased. Instead of giving these away and dropping a lot of replacement coin, I can see many more years of wear (have the bluish grey Normal Brand on right now).
Another 13 pounds and might have to go another round but that’s ok. Thought some of you might want to know
