I’ve been working on this project off and on for several weeks. These started out as beat up, light brown MIM Frye boots that I got on PoshMark for $40. After seeing ’s beautiful custom patina Allen Edmonds, I was inspired. Thanks to for the referral to the Shoe Snob; I was further emboldened. I stripped them, dyed them burgundy, added a black patina on the toe and heal, and then conditioned and polished them. I sent them to the local cobbler for new black soles and heels. I’m pretty pleased for a first try. They got a little darker than anticipated when I conditioned them so the black patina is not as prominent as I had hoped. I’ll be putting them through a Boots and Suits awards event in Texas this week.
Thanks, John and Brian for the inspiration and info. Thanks to the community for the positive environment.
