Several client and internal meetings today while trying to also spend 8+ hours of a client project. A serious suit for a serious day. That said, the tie and pocket square are both fun new items for me.

The tie is my first bespoke tie. I had been wanting the Rampley & Co shantung silk burgundy tie with white polka dots for months, but it's been sold out. I then found Brunati Como who will make all kinds of different ties to order, let you pick the fabric, size, construction, and more. I had this Shantung silk burgundy polka dot tie made. I went to the next level by having it made as a 7-fold tie, which is thick for Shantung! I had a keeper added with my initials. The initials are a fun add that no one sees but me, but I realized after that you do not want a keeper on a 7+ fold tie as the folds are suppressed rather than allow to flow more freely. Lesson learned.

The other item is my pocket square from Rampley & Co, which is easily the most ornate PS I own. The dragon image is beautiful art. The great thing about such artistry on a PS is that is really never shows. You simply stick out an area with the colors you want and it looks like random puffs of color on silk. But I know I have art in my pocket, and in a design of a Japanese dragon drawing makes it extra special as my wife (and thus my boys) are partially Japanese. I'm pretty sure she is also partially dragon...

Client, vendor, and internal video conferences • Mid-gray suit • First-wear accessories

The outfit uses a business-formal mid-gray shadow-stripe suit and crisp white herringbone shirt as a controlled neutral frame. Burgundy, white, blue, red, and black appear through the tie and pocket square, while silver-toned accessories, black leather, and gray socks keep the statement pieces disciplined for video.

Suit — Ralph Lauren

A matching mid-gray Ralph Lauren wool suit with a subtle shadow-stripe effect, slight sheen, and light-gray, light-blue, and light-brown undertones. The two-button jacket has roped padded shoulders, notch lapels, gray horn buttons, flap pockets, and full lining. The coordinating double-pleated trousers preserve a traditional business-classic silhouette.

Shirt — Charles Tyrwhitt

A white non-iron cotton shirt in a soft herringbone weave, cut slim with a classic point collar and square French cuffs. The quiet texture complements rather than competes with the tie’s shantung slub and the pocket square’s artwork.

Undershirt — Sene

A white made-to-measure crew-neck undershirt in Peruvian Pima cotton and elastane. Its excellent drape and close fit keep the dress shirt smooth on camera.

Tie — Brunati Como — First Wear

The focal point is a bespoke Brunati Como seven-fold tie handmade in Italy from burgundy-and-white silk shantung. Its unlined, self-lined construction uses the silk itself to create body and drape, with self-tipping, a hand-finished edge, slip stitch, and a keeper personalized with my JCC initials. The matte slub texture gives the burgundy unusual depth without camera glare. Small white polka dots temper the richness and connect directly to the white shirt. The 8 cm blade, 150 cm length, moderate knot bulk, and strong dimple performance suit the classic point collar. Rated business formal and 5/5 for video compatibility, it is distinctive at the construction level as well as the color level.

This is its first recorded wear: $387.00 cost per wear after one wear, with the tie still in mint condition.

Belt — Hanks

A substantial black lined-leather belt with edge stitching and a silver buckle. It grounds the burgundy tie and multicolor square while connecting to the silver tie bar, cufflinks, watch, and briefcase hardware.

Footwear — Stacy Adams

Black smooth burnished-leather cap-toe Oxfords with restrained styling and black laces. Their simple shape and dark finish keep the lower half quiet, allowing the first-wear accessories to remain the deliberate points of interest.

Socks — Fort Belvedere

Gray over-the-calf Italian compacted-cotton socks with a light-gray shadow stripe and matte finish. The pattern echoes the suit’s subtle striping while extending the trouser line.

Cufflinks

High-shine silver square cufflinks topped with white pearls. The pearls repeat the shirt and tie dots, while the silver setting coordinates with the tie bar and dress watch.

Pocket Square — Rampley & Co. — First Wear

Rampley & Co.’s “A White Dragon Ascends” art pocket square introduces a Japanese ukiyo-e composition in white, blue, red, black, and additional multicolor detail. The white ground connects to the shirt and tie dots; blue cools the mid-gray suit; red speaks to the burgundy shantung; and black links to the shoes, belt, pen, and leather carry. Its silky finish and large-format artwork make it unusually expressive, but a puff, crown, upside-down puff, or banker’s fold can reveal only selected fragments of the dragon composition. The piece carries a 4/5 formality score and is suitable for in-person, video, and regular-work settings. This is its first recorded wear: $105.00 cost per wear after one wear.

Tie Bar — Sonia Jewels

A polished two-inch slide-on tie bar in sterling silver. Its clean geometry controls the substantial seven-fold tie without distracting from the shantung texture.

Pen — Montblanc Meisterstück 146 LeGrand

A black high-gloss fountain pen with polished platinum trim and a 14K rhodium-detailed extra-fine nib, currently filled with Moderna Red ink. The red ink privately echoes the burgundy tie and red elements in the pocket-square artwork.

Watches

The Movado Museum Classic provides the formal watch: a polished stainless-steel case, black sunburst concave dial, single dot at twelve, and slim profile. Its silver-and-black presentation remains quiet beside the expressive tie and pocket square.

The slate-titanium Apple Watch provides discreet health and scheduling functionality for a meeting-heavy office day.

Business Card Carrier and Leather Carry

A black smooth-leather Montblanc business card carrier with a zipped center pocket and silver hardware coordinates with the other black-and-silver accessories.

The structured black Montblanc 4810 Westside double-gusset briefcase features printed calfskin, gunmetal hardware, and extensive professional organization. Its formal architecture matches the client-facing purpose of the outfit.

Wallet

A slim Fort Belvedere mahogany-and-petrol-blue bifold in Italian full-grain bullhide. Mahogany adds a private warm note related to burgundy, while petrol blue quietly repeats color from the pocket-square artwork.
