Good morning gentlemen.
One thing about this journey that we are on, is that you never stop learning and growing. There are so many aspects of being a gentleman that if you take the time to look, listen, and think, you will find that so many things that we thought were old fashion, stuffy, and unpopular, that we thought we were to good for that, or that it was to expensive. One example for me was golf. I looked as it as an old man’s game, or one for the rich, or a complete waste of time. But in reality is it’s a challenging sport, it is a sport that can bring networking with other men and women, and it will definitely teach you humility and to be humble.
Another aspect of this notion is I use to sit down at dinner and if I had a soda or tea with a meal I would drink about two glasses of it and not even think about it. And I would see people drink wine with their meals and I would be like “I can not afford to drink that for dinner”, thinking I would go broke drinking four or five glasses of wine ( mind you I’m thinking about how much I would drink and looking at how small wine glasses are,) so this was my mindset on this. One night me and my beautiful bride went out to dinner and we were given complimentary wine with our dinner from one of the restaurant we frequent (because you know I was not about to pay for that).
So as they brought out our meal and the wine and I thinking I am going to have to order a glass of tea or something to go with this or I’m going to have cotten mouth by the end of the meal. And to my surprise at the end of the meal I still had like a half glass of wine and the food tastes amazing! I could not believe it! How could the same food that I have ordered numerous times ( because I’m a creature of habit) taste so much better this time? So me being Sherlock Holmes began to analyze this phenomenal experience, the only difference was the glass of wine. Could it make that much of a difference? And it did! I was like, I didn’t even drink that much of it while I was eating.
So this opened a whole new level of experience to me, so I wanted to test this theory, so I went and purchased a bottle of wine for dinner to try at home. We had dinner that night and we opened the bottle of wine, again a meal we have made at home numerous of times. Yet this time the meal was so enhanced with flavor and again I had one glass of wine and at the end of the meal I still have some in the glass. Could it be that simple? Does wine really make a difference? But how can a person afford this all the time?
The thing is the wine was not that expensive, and we do not go through a bottle every meal. So this started a new thing in our house. Plus I now have a new hobby of collecting wine. I began to buy wine for our meals, and some to keep on hand and let age. The truth of the matter is, we were spending more in drinks of tea and sodas that are not healthy in the first place, and consume more of them than when we would have wine with our meals. Plus the food is so much better because we are not drowning it in liquid in our stomachs.
Now we have a collection of wines, we attend wine tasting events, we actually lost weight by not consuming all those sugary drinks. We are learning about the different wines and what goes with them, and love when we go out to eat knowing what type of wine to order with what type of food. And wine is not near as expensive as you would think ( mind you if you want a particular one yes this can be, but we have our wine that we drink daily and then ones for special occasions that we collect and save.) and wine does have health benefits .
So gentlemen, drink up, make a toast, and celebrate life, being a gentleman, and enjoy life. Cheers!
