Identify bottlenecks
Both in business and in your training, the most impact for the least reward comes from successfully identifying and removing bottlenecks. In business it's currently our Skool about page so any recommendations are welcome In training it's quitting smoking and getting my neck up to speed of the rest of my body again. It's about doing less instead of more, but with the right focus. What are you going to eliminate or focus on for the next three months?
Nightmares and night terrors
As a kid I have always had trouble sleeping. From not being able to get to sleep to nightmares, night terrors and waking up bathing in sweat yelling 'Madre Maria, Ayuda Me!' (I never learned Spanish but everyone was getting slaughtered in a church) But for the past year I've been really focused on getting 7,5 to 8 hours of sleep per night and it's doing wonders. I do this by tracking my sleep per night, calculating weekly averages. And my training results are noticably better when I slept 8 hours or more when comparing my training logs to my sleep log. Anyone else here a bad sleeper?
My current challenge
Due to an old injury, I always suffer from significant tension in my back and neck. This causes my lower back, upper back, and neck to stiffen up quickly. According to my current physiotherapist, the issue is that my left glute does not activate properly and is too weak, so it isn't doing its job correctly. I am currently working with weights to strengthen this left glute and the surrounding muscles. The goal is to get it functioning properly so that, hopefully, I can eventually continue sports and training without needing to visit the osteopath every month.
Consistency is 🔑
The biggest challenge in Martial arts isn't the strength and conditioning, the perfect combination or cross-training six disciplines. It's his do you keep showing up? Through injury. Through life phases. Through good times. Through hard times. How do I trick my brain? When it's telling me the class already started, I'm hurt or something else? It's a part of my identity. If my shoulder hurts I'll train jabs. If I hit my head, I'll slowly train footwork. If I have something to celebrate, it's preferably outside of training hours. If I'm going through something, training is my anchor. If we skip two weeks, the third will be harder to get back in the rhythm. So many hours and weeks wasted on my end because of exams, injuries or something else. Keep training 💪
