Tatsujin Rules! And these are the rules
So Brent's last fight, he had his pro debut under the Tatsujin ruleset. What is allowed? - Punches, including hammer fists, - kicks, - knees - clinching for 10 seconds - kubi sumo including throws - ground and pound for 10 seconds What isn't allowed? - elbows - soccer kicks - shooting for takedowns - stomping a downed opponent This way Tatsujin is a bit closer to real street fighting than pure kickboxing. It adds in grappling in an appropriate amount, because in combat sports it's easy to lose sight on what works on the concrete and have one aspect of the puzzle dominate because of the ruleset. Think of it this way: - You wouldn't take an attacker down if there's a second one ready to stomp your head. - You wouldn't get up close against a stronger or armed opponent. So you shouldn't only rely on grappling arts for martial arts. And you should incorporate striking in your grappling.

The original Tatsujin rules had soccer kicks, stomps, ground fighting… and even groin strikes. At a certain moment also attack to the eyes. Then Jukucho decided that only weird people participated. People can still fight under these rules if they request it. The current format is very spectator friendly, and allows a striker to further develop with throws and ground and pound.
Road to professional fighting
This was my first professional fight. We approached it very well with a smart game plan. I focused much more on pad work and less on sparring, and that worked better for me. It was also my first weight cut. It was a bit difficult, but overall it went very smoothly. This experience will definitely help me in the future. Unfortunately, I didn’t get the chance to do a face-off, which is the only thing missing from the full professional experience. I won the fight, and afterward, my opponent and I made peace behind the scenes. We talked with the trainer over there and discussed some future plans. From where I stand now, the future of my fighting career looks to be in very good hands. OSU

Whip spine
Look at Jukucho’s spinal movement. A very important part of understanding Muchimi, power development and fluidity. You train it slowly. To use it fast later.

Going with @Jorge Gonzalez through the spinal movement of Muchimi.
The role of 'smaller' fight promotions in Japan
In Japan you have lots of smaller federations. It's not about being bigger or better, it's about supporting combat athletes at the earlier stages of their career. When you have no record, bigger promotions won't take you on. So by having some amateur tournaments and then your first pro matches in these promotions, you can build up your record and get noticed by these bigger organizations. They often visit these smaller promotions to scout for talent as well. In the west UFC has come up with lots of different formats to give young guys this chance, and you see more and more promotions popping up.

@Serwan Scheppers yes. You need to have many options with many different rule sets to develop. In general, in Europe the MMA striking rules set is quite limited with protective equipment and only few strikes allowed. While the tasuijin allows strikes, throws and ground and pound. Which allows a striker a step in between full mma rules and kickboxing.

Other rules, like @Brent Supuis previous match, even allow stomps and soccer kicks on a ground opponent. Which allows them experience for rules set like Rizin FF. All this without having to focus on grappling. Which they can develop later on.
