Bold, Italics, and underline, we all know them, but how can we apply them to make our copy pop without being visually incoherent?
You see, there IS a way to use them.
Bold Key Messages:
Start by identifying the most critical messages, insights, or actions in your text.
- Highlighting major benefits or results (e.g., “overwhelming opportunity for growth”).
- Emphasizing critical concepts or tools (e.g., “designed and sold without any tech skills”).
- Drawing attention to strong calls to action or key promises (e.g., “the steps are simpler than you think”).
Enhance with Italics:
Add italics to phrases that add personal connection or insights that challenge assumptions. Use them to guide the reader gently through the narrative.
- Adding a personal or conversational tone (e.g., “I’ll guide you through exactly how it’s done.”).
- Highlighting unexpected insights or lesser-known facts (e.g., “unexpected reason”).
- Softening statements that challenge the reader’s beliefs or gently guide them (e.g., “their chatbots fall flat”).
Underline Sparingly:
Reserve underlining for pivotal points that are either calls to action, belief-challenging statements, or the most transformative actions.
- Highlighting action-oriented phrases that imply a need for change (e.g., “Think chatbots are only for tech experts?”).
- Drawing attention to transformative actions or turning points (e.g., “represent your business effectively through a chatbot.”).
- Emphasizing challenges to beliefs or objections that need to be directly addressed.
