My Story continues (Number 4)
Here is another story it only short but I thought it is worth relating. When I went to the American Air Force Base I ate with the N.C.O.s and usually a few of them would go out to the N.C.O. Club for a beer and have a game of poker. I would set in for a while.
One night while I was on the base I visited the N.C.O. Club for a while after supper.
I played a couple games of cards with a few of the troops.
I left the Club around 10PM on my way back to the bunkhouse the air raid sirens was sounded and if anyone was caught on the streets they could be picked up by the base police.
It was in the winter and very cold but in order not get caught on the street I jumped over the snowbank on the side of the road.
I stayed there for about ten or fifteen minutes until the sirens and the search lights stopped.
I then crawled up out of the ditch and over the bank of snow unto the road and continued to the bunkhouse which was about ten minutes walk.
When I got back to the bunkhouse I was nearly frozen
