Talking is a great way to release emotions!
Now I like people to be cautious with this one... not all people are a safe space to talk to... and you must watch yourself not to become the person that "dumps" on people all the time. You will lose friends!
But if you have a very trusted, safe, and encouraging person to talk to, it can be very helpful. When I say trusted, I mean what you share will never leave their mouth. Safe means they will love and support you no matter what your struggles are. Encouraging... I mean that instead of falling into the complaining and justifying-your-feelings-pit with you, they know how to listen, validate, and encourage a way to heal and mend the situation, not make it worse.
Finding someone with all of those traits can be difficult!
Therapists, Counselors, Psychiatrists, or a Coach can be very beneficial in fulfilling the human to human conversation that we sometimes need when trying to release and work through emotions.
Over the last few years I have discovered several other ways to TALK IT OUT, other than with people.
#1 Pray: Talk to God. He is my favorite person to vent to. I can let out all my feelings, frustrations, hurt, sorrow, anger, etc. and He always understands... AND He always chides me a little. He helps me to see my role in the situation and how I can improve it next time. It is truly humbling to know that I can get help from the Master and Creator of all. When I talk to Him, it helps me remember that this person I am venting about is also His Child. And it helps me to see that person through God's eyes. Why does God love him/her? How can I better see the beauty, the talents, the strength, the glory, etc. that God created in that person? How can I work with and gain a better understanding of them?
#2 Animals: Animals are a great source of comfort, unconditional love, and loyalty. They are also good listeners. They feel your energy and are actually created with built-in healing properties (did you know the frequency and vibration of a cat's purr can actually help reduce stress, lower blood pressure and help heal bones?). If you need to talk out loud, find a beloved dog or cat, snuggle them and unload your emotions! They will understand and support you through the moment.
#3 Trees: Trees are one of God's many wonderful creations, they are also one of the oldest living organisms on the earth, and they have lived through A LOT! They hold a lot of wisdom, they are also deeply connected into the earth, which vibrates, heals and sustains all life. When you are seeking wisdom go to the trees. You can talk to them. You can ask them questions. And as you listen for a response, you may be surprised to find one! (I know this may sound super weird to some of you! But please don't knock it until you try it! God is in all things!)
Go out there and find someone or something that you can talk to! You will be amazed at the renewal and wisdom you will find as you talk, ask, and listen to God's marvelous creations.
