🚀 SKOOL NEWS #55: NEW Discovery Search is LIVE!
Hey Navigators 🧭 Big update last week. The new Skool Discovery Search is now live. And according to Sam and Kirby… it’s night and day better. This matters because search is already the biggest driver inside the Skool Network. So if your group can be found better, you have a better chance of getting more members. ✅ NEW FEATURE (LIVE NOW): Discovery Search Go to: skool.com/discovery Now search is much smarter. It can handle: - typos - people’s names - group names - better topic matching - more relevant results Example from the episode: Search “meat ads” and Skool understands you probably meant Meta ads. But search just “meat” and it understands you mean actual meat. Small detail. Big difference. Search is also much better at finding specific people and communities. Before, some searches were messy. Now the results actually make sense. Finally 😄 🔍 WHY THIS MATTERS Skool Network already sends around 30% of new members to communities across the platform. And of that Skool Network traffic: - 70% comes from search - 20% comes from user profiles - 10% comes from discovery browsing That means search is the big one. And that was with the old search. So now that search actually works better… this could become a much stronger growth channel for community owners. 🧩 KEYWORDS NOW MATTER Remember the new Discovery Keywords feature? Now it actually factors into search. Skool search looks at: - your keywords - your About Page - your group description So this is your reminder: Go check your keywords. You can add up to 11 keywords inside: Settings → Discovery Think like your future member: What would they type to find your group? Not fancy words. Not “cool” words. Search words. That’s the game. ✅ NEW: DISCOVERY CHECKLIST Skool also added a checklist to show why your group may not be listed in Discovery yet. To show up, you need things like: - cover image - group description - About Page - at least one post - at least three members who are not you
🚀 SKOOL NEWS #54: 11 Uniquely Profitable Skools
Hey Navigators 🧭 This episode was a bit different. Instead of just features… it was a behind-the-scenes look at what’s actually working right now on Skool. From the Skool Games event in LA. And honestly… this is where things click. Because you don’t just hear theory. You see real communities. Real niches. Real numbers. 🎬 SKOOL GAMES EVENT (WHAT WENT DOWN) Winners flew out to LA. Red carpet. Live talks. Photos. Time to connect and talk shop. Not just “sit and listen.” More like: 👉 meet other builders 👉 share ideas 👉 see what’s actually working And yes… a lot of casual conversations. That’s usually where the best insights come from anyway. 💡 11 UNIQUELY PROFITABLE EXAMPLES Here’s what stood out: 📸 The Photo Project About $30k/month Photography community 🎸 Grateful Mic ~$4k/month Super niche → fans of Grateful Dead learning guitar 🤖 AI Video Bootcamp ~$133k/month This one was wild. Notifications going off every ~30–60 seconds. Same audience. Same platform. Different positioning → completely different scale 🥗 Club Raw ~$18k/month 🧠 Identity / mindset (Mandarin market) ~$12k/month ✨ Manifestation School ~$4k/month 🧬 Gut Health Community ~$23k/month 💼 Career Development (another solid performer in the mix) 🥋 Jiu-Jitsu Community ~$7.6k/month …and more in the room. Around 40 creators total. Different niches. Different audiences. Same platform. 🧠 WHAT’S THE PATTERN? This is the part most people miss. It’s not about the niche. It’s about how clearly it’s defined. Look at the range: AI video gut health jiu-jitsu manifestation guitar for one specific band No overlap. No “general business advice.” Each one is: 👉 specific 👉 clear 👉 easy to understand That’s why it works. 🗺️ ROADMAP (QUICK PEEK) Main focus stays the same: 👉 Discovery + Search What’s coming: - new search (major upgrade) - trending feed (more dynamic discovery) - better attribution (cleaner data) Goal is simple: help you get more members from inside Skool
🚀 SKOOL NEWS #53: Introducing Keywords for Discovery
Hey Navigators 🧭 A new Discovery feature is live right now: 🔥 Keywords. This one looks simple on the surface. But it matters a lot. Because most Skool Network traffic already comes from search. And if people can’t find your group when they search… you miss members. ✅ NEW FEATURE (LIVE NOW): Discovery Keywords Go to: Settings → Discovery You can now add up to 11 keywords to help people find your community. How it works: - type a keyword - hit enter or comma - add the next one Simple. Important note: Set them now. But they won’t affect search results until the new Discovery search goes live. That should happen around early May. So right now, this is preparation. But smart preparation. 🔍 WHY THIS MATTERS Skool said most Skool Network traffic comes from search. Right now, Skool looks at things like: - your About Page - your group description But maybe you didn’t include all your best search terms there. This new feature lets you tell Skool more clearly: “This is what my community is about.” That means when search improves, your group has a better shot of showing up for the right people. 🧠 HOW TO PICK YOUR KEYWORDS This is the real part that matters. Start with 2 simple questions: 1️⃣ What topics is your group actually about? Not vaguely. Not what sounds trendy. What is it really about? 2️⃣ What would someone type to find it? Put yourself in the searcher’s shoes. What words would they use in Discovery? That’s the test. 🧾 EXAMPLE FROM THE EPISODE They used Grow With Evelyn as an example. Her community is about things like: - Facebook ads - Meta ads - YouTube ads - memberships - low ticket - marketing - copywriting - digital marketing And also her name, because some people will search for her directly. That’s a good framework: - brand / name - main skill - alternate wording for the same skill - business model - broader category That gives you a good mix. ⚠️ DON’T STUFF RANDOM KEYWORDS IN THERE This was an important warning.
🚀 SKOOL NEWS #52: NEW Discovery Is Coming
Hey Navigators 🧭 This is a big one. Skool is clearly shifting focus toward one thing this year: helping communities get more members. And the center of that is Discovery. So this episode was basically a preview of where things are heading over the next 90 days. 🔍 NEW DISCOVERY IS COMING The big idea is simple: If you build something great on Skool, it should have a much better chance of getting discovered. Right now, about 30% of members across the platform already come from the Skool Network. That alone is strong. But here’s the surprising part: - around 1 million people visit Discovery every day - about 70% of Skool Network comes from search - about 20% comes from user profiles - about 10% comes from browse That is wild. Because Skool hasn’t even pushed Discovery that hard yet. And even more interesting… search is already the main engine even though the current search is not that good. That tells you something important: There is already real demand there. Now they want to make it work much better. 🛠️ WHAT’S CHANGING IN DISCOVERY? Skool shared a few major upgrades they’re working on: 1️⃣ Better search This is the first big focus. Makes sense. If search drives most discovery traffic, that’s the lever to improve first. They said changes should start rolling out soon. 2️⃣ Community keywords Group owners will likely be able to define up to 11 keywords for their community. Examples: - Facebook ads - knitting - YouTube content - photography That matters because it forces a good question: What words would people actually search to find your group? That’s a very useful exercise by itself. 3️⃣ Trending becomes more important Right now Discovery feels a bit static. Same groups. Same feel. Not much movement. They want to make Trending a much bigger part of the experience. That means: - newer groups can get visibility faster - Discovery becomes more alive - more communities get a shot at being seen That’s good for smaller groups too.
🚀 SKOOL NEWS #49: St. Patrick’s Day AMA
Hey Navigators 🧭 Last week’s Skool News was a bit different. One small new feature. One very niche Skool of the Week. And then a big AMA based on 600+ questions from the community. That made this episode interesting, because it was less “announcement mode” and more “here’s what people actually want to know.” ✅ NEW FEATURE: Sticky Notification Filter Skool added a small but useful update to notifications. Now when you filter notifications, the filter sticks while you work through them. Example: If you filter for one specific group, open a notification, and then go back, the filter stays there. So you can clear that batch faster. Small safeguard: The filter resets after 10 minutes. Smart move. Otherwise people would forget they had a filter on and think their notifications disappeared 😄 Also new: - Following filter - New posts filter And Skool made notification settings easier to tune. Big picture: They are still cleaning up notifications, which is good. Because once engagement grows, messy notifications can become a real problem fast. 🏫 Skool of the Week: Crybaby Ron Studio This one was a great reminder that weirdly specific niches can work really well. Ron Smith runs a community around: Japanese tattoo drawing Not tattoos in general. Not art in general. Very specific. And he reportedly hit: $5.3k MRR 119 members in about 3 months His main source? Instagram — around 66% Skool Network added another chunk too. Simple model: create niche content on Instagram put Skool link in bio send people to About Page let the niche do the filtering That tends to work better than broad, vague positioning. ❓ AMA HIGHLIGHTS FROM THE COMMUNITY There were a lot of questions. Here are the ones that stood out most. 1️⃣ How will Skool get to 1 billion users? Their answer was basically: Keep making Skool better. Keep growing creators. And now shift more focus toward getting more users onto the platform too. Interesting stat from the episode:
