Direct Query through Gateway; avoiding cloud security concerns

Hi all -

Came across an interesting problem where a client wants to use Power BI but doesn't want their data in the cloud. It was proposed earlier that they can circumvent this by incorporating an enterprise gateway and only using Direct Query mode for the reports published to the service.

Is this sound/correct?

I get that the cloud probably has better security, but this client is adamant that they don't want their data in the cloud.
