Direct Query through Gateway; avoiding cloud security concerns
Hi all - Came across an interesting problem where a client wants to use Power BI but doesn't want their data in the cloud. It was proposed earlier that they can circumvent this by incorporating an enterprise gateway and only using Direct Query mode for the reports published to the service. Is this sound/correct? I get that the cloud probably has better security, but this client is adamant that they don't want their data in the cloud. Any feedback on their approach is greatly appreciated. Thanks, Kory

Yes, Report Server is a way... but they are being told that they can still have Power BI service host their reports (and no data goes to the cloud) as long as they are configured using Direct Query and via a Gateway. Is this a valid way to address their 'data in the cloud' avoidance?
Is P1 Capacity still an option?
I have a client who just recently bought a P1 Capacity to handle incremental loading through their Dataflows. They are new to Power BI and are looking to use the Dataflows to pull data from Oracle ADW to migrate their existing reports into Power BI. My argument is they should opt for Fabric now (still green field for them) to take advantage of Gen 2, etc... BUT their CIO is wary of changes, and they just made a change to Power BI and don't want to change further if they can help it. Question - Should I call for an emergency halt? Or let them continue down their path of using P1 knowing they'll need to switch at a later date? Again - they are very new to BI, with their main focus of migrating their existing reports into Power BI. Once done, then look towards a new BI modernization play...

@Rafal Andrearczyk ahhh- so, this isn't available with just P1 Premium? You have to have Fabric to implement CDC? I've been on MSFT calls where they alluded to the fact that a lot of the Fabric capabilities would still be available with the P1 purchase, albeit for the time being. Any thoughts on this?

@Eivind Haugen True... I've done similar with watermark tables in ADF. Yea, they are just keeping it super simple for now. The are using date fields and can manipulate the data tables in ADW (Oracle) to ensure the Dataflows consume it correctly via the gateways. Am i missing something?

Hi All - I'm hailing from Seattle and looking to do more with Fabric. Been in the consulting space for 20+ years and looking to redefine my role as a Business Analytic Architect (which I'm looking to define here...). Yea, Will's youTube video hooked me in... really resonated with me on how Fabric and all of the capabilities aligned towards delivering analytics and empowering the business to do more with actionable insights. Next step is DP-600.
