Data Analytics Project 17 : Power BI Books Publication Report
This is a comprehensive analytical dashboard that explores the evolving landscape of global publishing. This project transforms bibliographic data into actionable insights, examining how publication trends, author output, and reader engagement have shifted over the last century. By visualizing these patterns, the report provides a unique perspective on market dominance and literary impact.
The analysis reveals a massive surge in book publications starting in the 1980s and peaking in the early 2000s. Key KPIs highlight Vintage as the leading publisher with 318 titles, while P.G. Wodehouse and Stephen King tie for the top author spot with 40 books each. Data also shows a significant linguistic concentration, with English-language books accounting for nearly 87% of the total volume.
Engagement metrics offer deep insights into reader behavior, with Zora Neale Hurston dominating the text review counts at over 70%. Popularity is further underscored by rating counts, where "Twilight" leads with a staggering 4.6 million ratings, followed closely by classics like "The Hobbit." These metrics demonstrate how specific franchises and prolific authors shape the majority of global reader interactions.
Technically, I utilized Power BI to build this interactive experience, employing DAX for custom measures and Power Query for data cleaning. The dashboard features intuitive visualizations, from treemaps for language distribution to bar charts for publisher rankings. I look forward to continuing my journey in data storytelling, using these tools to uncover meaningful patterns in complex global datasets!
