As we begin to study ACiM, many students are initially perplexed about what those first 50 lessons mean when it comes to understanding (as well as living in) the world. The simplest way I have found to ease this process is by suggesting people focus on the world within one's thinking mind before trying to align the work with beliefs in an external illusion. Whateveryou do, begin by simply allowing yourself to look.
The Course is asking us to simply look. You are not being asked to judge, understand, analyze, intellectualize or patronize... but look. Just look. Look at what we see and the meanings we ascribe. Look at what we think and how we tend not to doubt the accuracy or factual nature of thoughts just because they randomly appear in our head. Look at how our emotions (especially the negative ones) are given blind rule to motivate our behaviors. Look at the ways we doubt and berate our value, believing this somehow lifts us up.
It is by simply looking, questioning, settling apart from temptations to justify or "yeah but." By looking and asking "what is this for," we give ourselves the opportunity to choose again. Here is our strategy to choosing peace instead. Let's look.
