Today I learnt one new expression that I find very useful: To go so far as to
It means to exaggerate the situation and do something extreme
i.e. Elaine didn't want to talk to the taxi driver, but to go so far as to pretend she is going deaf. Can you believe she did it?
i.e. John really didn't want to go to the military - he went so far as to break his own leg.
It is very impressive how far we can go in order to get or avoid something. I beleive everyone can relate, because we follow and act accordingly to our values to pursue our goals and desires.
i.e. I went so far as to work 12 hours or more during the pandemic to help my family business.
i.e. How far would you go to protect your family?
I'd go so far as to kill a lion with my bare hands
I don't know how common the expression is but it seem useful in some case scenarios.
