Hey everyone! π
Today Iβve got two useful English expressions for you. Letβs dive in! ππ
π Water Under the Bridge
π Meaning:
Something that happened in the past and is no longer important or worth worrying about. Youβve moved on from it.
π Origin:
Think of water flowing under a bridge β once itβs gone, itβs gone. The idea is: past problems have βflowed away.β
π Examples:
β’ We argued last week, but itβs water under the bridge now.
β’ Donβt stress about that mistake β itβs water under the bridge.
β’ All that drama is water under the bridge for me.
π Break a Leg
π Meaning:
A way to say βgood luckβ, especially before a performance, exam, interview, or big event.
π Origin:
Comes from theater superstition β instead of saying βgood luck,β people said the opposite to avoid bad luck. Now itβs just a fun, standard phrase.
π Examples:
β’ Big exam tomorrow? Break a leg!
β’ Youβve got a concert tonight β break a leg! πΈ
β’ First job interview? Go in there and break a leg!
Now itβs your turn! π¬
