Todayβs expression is βtaking it up a notch.β π₯
π It means to increase intensity, quality, or effort β making something better, stronger, or more exciting than before.
Origin:
This phrase comes from mechanics and engineering, where a βnotchβ is a small increment or level. To take it up a notch literally meant to move a lever or control to the next level. Over time, it entered everyday English to mean stepping things up. βοΈ
Examples:
β’ The team was doing well, but the coach wanted to take it up a notch. π
β’ This recipe is good, but adding more spices really takes it up a notch. πΆοΈ
