🇺🇸 English Expressions : Pushin’ My Buttons
Hey everyone! 👋
Today’s expression is “pushin’ my buttons.” 😤
👉 It means doing something that annoys, irritates, or provokes someone — often on purpose.
Basically, when someone’s actions or words get on your nerves, they’re pushing your buttons.
Origin:
This comes from the metaphor of a machine with buttons. Just like pressing a button on a device triggers a response, certain words or actions trigger an emotional reaction. It’s been used in casual English since at least the mid-20th century. 🤖
Examples:
  • Stop teasing me — you’re really pushin’ my buttons! 😅
  • His constant complaining is really pushing my buttons. 🙄
  • She knows exactly which comments will push his buttons. 😬
