Monday Challenge: Let Go Without Disappearing
This is an important distinction:
"Delegate it and forget about it." vs. "Delegate it and stay accountable without taking ownership back."
The Problem:
There are two ways leaders fail at delegation:
Micromanagement: "Let me tell/show you how to do it."
Abandonment: "Figure it out."
Neither develops people.
The Truth:
Good delegation creates space with structure.
Your job isn't to control the process. Your job is to establish the conditions for success. Which means taking accountability for the individual(s) to be successful.
* Keynote. Take accountability for their success but do not take ownership for it. *
The Challenge:
For one delegated responsibility this week: What's something you can do to help aid in its success without taking control of the task?
Do that thing.
Bonus. If you don't know how you can aid, then ask: "What do you need from me?"
Accountability: Comment, keep it brief.
What's one thing you can do to help aid their success?
