Lick of the week
Challenge! Record and post one of the following… A video of you playing the line “as is” over a backing track (anything that has a long ii-V-I line in it in Bb) A video of you playing it in a few (or all 12) keys. A video of you using the line inside an improvisation. This line uses a few different chromatic concepts over a ii-V-I sequence in Bb. Enjoy! Looking forward to hearing what you do with it. (Transcription is in the snippets course in the classroom)

Musical Bodies exhibit at the Met, NYC
Hey all! I’m new here- hi! 👋 1. On Monday I went to the gorgeous Met exhibit Musical Bodies. It was so cool! I thought some of y’all might like to see the Violino Harpo Forma Maxima (1874) by Austrian luthier Thomas Zach. “This extravagantly curved, larger than life experimental Violin was built to test a Bucharest prince’s unorthodox theories about acoustics. While the instrument’s sound production was originally deemed disappointing, its striking organic and anatomical design perfectly embodies the theme of the exhibit, which explores the historical relationship between musical instruments and the human form.” 2. I‘ve been lucky to see and try out a Strad or 2 before, but I never saw one with a fingerboard this short! 😜

What tune gives you the most difficulty?
For me it’s anything based on those Coltrane changes like countdown or Giant Steps. I find I can play over it if I’m reading it but I forget the changes really easily. If I play it with anyone in a gig or jam setting, it always ends up a car crash on my part How about you?
