What you up to this weekend?
I’m mainly hanging out with family today and tomorrow, I’m sat in a park in south east London right now not really doing much moving because I injured my knee… This afternoon at 4pm however I’m jumping on zoom for a free workshop “getting started with jazz violin”, just for you LJV skoolers. It’s for violinists who are totally new to jazz who want a simple way in. @Lotte Cutts the alpha is 40 watts, two channels with individual gain , one a mic/ line, and eq / reverb on master, loud enough and relatively light. The compact 60 also has two similar channels but separate eq’s and four effects including reverb, delay and chorus that can be panned across one or both channels, a little heavier tha the 40 but definitely a punchier sound. Both are great, I’ve had an Alpha for over 10years with no problems and recently bought the 60 off eBay at a bargain price, I was the only bidder!

In response to some criticism
The title sounds more serious than it really is… I recently posted a video in a Facebook group about what we get out of learning other players’ solos. A few people commented who are quite against this approach. One of them, who is actually a really great player, said he’s completely against learning jazz this way. His view is that it goes against the very essence of jazz, which he feels should be about freedom of expression. I can see where he’s coming from, but I don’t totally agree. I responded politely in the thread, of course, but it made me think it might be an interesting discussion to bring over here into SKOOL. I did briefly consider inviting him in to join the conversation, but I’m not sure he’d be that into it. Asking someone who already disagrees with you to come and join your own SKOOL group might come across a bit combative. So instead I thought I’d start a new thread here. Does his opinion resonate with anyone in the group? I’d genuinely be interested to hear people’s thoughts and would welcome the discussion.

II think you can absorb ideas and riffs from all sources but then feel able to improvise as you wish….. it’s in the verb and should be personal.

Looking to add a new weekly class
Hi all, Thinking of trying to add an extra time for people to attend my weekly practise club. Will be a re-run of the same material in the Monday class but for people who can make 6pm on Monday. If you are interested, please tell me in the comments what time pile be best for you and I will try and find the best time and day for us all. Just tell me in your own time zone and il work the rest out.
