🧠 Mental Wellness Monday: The 7 Natural Laws of Healing - Secret #4 A-N-S-W-E-R-S! 🌿
It's Mental Wellness Monday! By now you are an ANT exterminator, a slow breathing expert, and a wellness habit warrior. And you are totally ready for Whole Person Wellness Secret #4. Lets' take a look at the 7 Natural Laws of Healing together! They are Air, Nutrition, Sunlight, Water, Exercise, Rest, and Spirituality. I've used the acronym A-N-S-W-E-R-S because they are the answers for optimum health!
Air- Every cell requires a constant supply of air to live and to remain strong. Air has a healing effect on the body. Forest and mountain air and air near water have the greatest healing effect on mind and body. Practice mindful breathing—deep breaths to take in more oxygen! Breathe in that air!
Nutrition-Diet should be the cure, not the cause of sickness. Estimates as high as 90% show illness can be attributed to and prevented with diet. (More on this on another Monday soon.) Do more of this: fruits, vegetables, legumes, nuts, chicken, turkey, fish. Do less of this: fried foods, processed foods and sugar. Don't overeat and learn to distinguish between real hunger and eating for any other reason.
Sunlight- As sunlight hits the skin, ergosterols are transformed into vitamin D. 15-20 minutes exposure to direct sunlight sustains health by strengthening the immune system. Sunlight exposure also produces an insulin-like effect on the body by lowering blood sugar. Morning sun exposure is best. Lots of studies linking sunlight to elevating mood. Oh, and get that sunlight directly—no sunglasses.
Water- Water, water, water! It's by far the most important beverage! Drink it more than you drink anything else. Experts recommend we drink at least ½ our body weight in water every day to maintain optimum health. Thoreau said: "Water is the only drink for a wise man."
Exercise- Increases oxygen to the body and renews energy. Studies show that people who maintain an active lifestyle have lower BP, decreased body fat, improved mental acuity, happier mood, muscle strength, healthy digestive track, increased energy.
Rest-Overactivity leads to worry, fatigue, physical illness, and emotional problems. Sleep, relaxation and recreation are paramount to mind and body health. It's the work/life balance. Moderation. Even the heart rests after every beat.
Spirituality-Spiritual engagement and meaning is critical for optimal health. Study after study shows that connection with God/Higher Power improves physical, mental, and
emotional health unlike anything else. Humans are spiritual beings wrapped up in a physical body, therefore we do not thrive, we are not whole, without a spiritual connection.
Here's the ANSWERS to wellness! I'd love to hear your thoughts!
Yours for wellness,
Dr. Pam
