Question about mass texting

Hey guys, super duper new to GHL and had a question about texting.

Do my clients have to have a form of opt in for texts? What if they just collect numbers when they take in new clients themselves but no actual optin for texts? Is this a no go for mass texts or is it okay as long as I have “stop” to opt out within the text messages?

I’ve never done text campaigns before so this world is entirely new to me. Any help would be great. Thanks!
