Morning guys, first apologies, i am traveling through Holland this week, and i got my days mixed up, so todays post was suppose to be for yesterday 😀
Last week we talked about owning your weakness. This week, let’s go after the one I hear about more than any other.
Crosses.
Ask most keepers and they’ll tell you the same thing:
- “I stay on my line because I’m scared of dropping it”
- “I come, but I’m never sure if I should”
- “Big strikers put me off”
Here’s the truth. As a young keeper, crosses scared me too. The keepers who become great at crosses aren’t braver than you. They’ve just put in more reps.
3 things that fix crosses fast:
- Make your decision early. Watch the ball leave the crosser’s foot. Shout “KEEPER!” or “AWAY!” straight away. Hesitating gets you punished, not mistakes.
- Attack the ball at its highest point. Lead with your knee up for protection and catch it above your head, not in front of your face.
- Get the reps in. Ask a mate or a parent to throw 20 high balls at you this week. Start easy, then add a body in front of you.
Your challenge this week. Comment below with:
- On crosses, I’m a… (1 to 10, be honest)
- What stops me coming for them is…
- What I’m doing this week to improve is…
Then find another keeper’s comment and back them. Give them a tip or tell them you’ve been there.
Keepers lifting keepers.
Own it. Work on it. Command your box. 💪
