Season Reviews
Well, many seasons have ended, and others will end soon. So Undecided to write a review on Peter's 1st full season in goal and invite others to do the same. Highs, lows, landmarks tips and stats etc.
This was Peter's first full season as a keeper having had zero interest in football. He joined an U9s team, but coul only train as they had a keeper. Then in January 25, their keeper moves on and Peter made his debut in a 4-2 defeat but with a penalty save and a man of the match medal.
As someone who has donned the gloves in 7-aside football, I gave him a few tips and he soaked up the knowledge and it became apparent that he'd need a real coach. I honestly think the in J4Ks Myles Coleman he has one of the absolute best!
This season has been amazing. With the highs being an incredible performance in the cup against a really good team from a higher tier. Despite defeat the opponents were incredibly gracious and very single one of them congratulated Peter and called him Neuer and said he's going to the premier league which was really nice, but funny too.
The lows were an absolute pasting from a team that ended up moving jobs out 4 levels mid season where we lost 10-4 (and with the extra player rules spent most the match with 9 players). Even then though, Peter gave his all until the final second and continued to make some saves.
An interesting stat is that he has faced 14 penalties in his season and a half (including pre season.) and has 8 saves!
He still needs to be a bit more confident with his handling, but it's improving in training. And Myles continues to be amazing with him.
Overall, a really enjoyable season where we bought two pairs of J4K gloves and he loves them!
Well done to all the keepers in here, it can be unforgiving but also so rewarding. You all have a unique skill and I am so impressed with everyone who manages to pick the ball out the net... Get up and go again.
If there are any grass root coaches in here, thank you so much for everything you do, especially those of you that hear about players who have had confidence shattered by other coaches, or been knocked back repeatedly but decide to help them grow as people and players.
Gonna miss those Sunday morning matches for a few weeks. Hopefully the preseason tournaments aren't too far away!
