Win A Pair Of Gloves (Pro S25 Size 5)
Turning something negative into something positive. We are all aware of the recent scam negative reviews aimed at J4K on TrustPilot and Ray's generous offer of discounted J4K products to help counteract the impact this has had. In light of this I wanted to give something back to the J4K community, proving that there is still some good in the world. Using Ray's offer I ordered an extra pair of size 5 Pro S25 Negative Gloves which I am giving away for free. I have cleared this with Ray and his team who will act as the go between when the final winner is announced. To enter, simply leave a comment to this question. "If you invented a sports drink that was specifically designed for goalkeepers, what would it be called?" Only one entry will be considered and my 8 year old son will pick his favourite 3. From the 3 finalists, I will set up a poll where the rest of the community can vote for their overall favourite. The overall winner can then contact Ray directly to pass on their delivery address details and I will post recorded delivery*. Initial sports drink name ideas must be in (use the comments section) by close of play on the 26th of April. I will then set up the poll with the help of my son on the 27th of April with the final winner announced on Saturday the 2nd of May. Be as creative as you can, have some fun with it, and good luck Remember these are Size 5 so please only enter if you can make use of them. *I should mention, UK postage only.

This week was the final game. My goalkeeping son started left wing and almost scored a goal! All of the kids enjoyed playing our of position.
Switching on and off
So in the world of Goalkeeping I note so many youngsters who are absolutely dialled in, however I am noticing a lot who don’t seem to know when to switch on and when to switch off. It is all about our favourite thing MINDSET Goalkeeping is a Bug, a Way of life I know I have put over 30 years into it and although I am playing a lot less now as I coach and only play charity games, we need to know when to switch off. When we learn that switch off it is always obvious because performance pressure is removed. So you may have seen if you follow my Instagram I am a going to be back in match action with Moray Mental Health in 2 weeks time my first MATCH in 7 weeks it brings a certain pressure. But that pressure is managed by knowing when to switch on and off. Now this is not a post getting at the young in fact quite the opposite it is to highlight that your enthusiasm is infectious. But living every spare minute in Goalkeeping can burn you out especially when you have a big game or session coming up. Of late I have been time managing more due to work, coaching and family commitments. But making sure you have an hour a day where you out everything to one side and forget the stresses and do something completely different I hope the younger members will read this and start to filter in their own break away from our exclusive positions thinking. Whilst also older members will go yep this is how we improve because we have that moment or additional that when we switch back on can be an even bigger benefit to ourselves and our teams Let me know your thoughts because you might even teach this old boy a thing as well because we never stop learning

My son is the same. First thing in the morning might be a question about positioning. Last thing at night will be about one of his games and something he wish he did better. He's addicted to goalkeeping. It's odd because the time he is most calm is in match! He actually seems to switch off in matches but he hasn't... He's just focused on the match so nothing about anything but his positioning, he defenders and his area... As you say it's important to reduce the pressure on him and we have drilled in to him that if he makes a save, it's good but he needs to save the next one too and save the big celebrations til the end of the match. Even the pros can over celebrate a great save and then concede front he corner! However it is equally important to bounce back from a mistake.
Season Reviews
Well, many seasons have ended, and others will end soon. So Undecided to write a review on Peter's 1st full season in goal and invite others to do the same. Highs, lows, landmarks tips and stats etc. This was Peter's first full season as a keeper having had zero interest in football. He joined an U9s team, but coul only train as they had a keeper. Then in January 25, their keeper moves on and Peter made his debut in a 4-2 defeat but with a penalty save and a man of the match medal. As someone who has donned the gloves in 7-aside football, I gave him a few tips and he soaked up the knowledge and it became apparent that he'd need a real coach. I honestly think the in J4Ks Myles Coleman he has one of the absolute best! This season has been amazing. With the highs being an incredible performance in the cup against a really good team from a higher tier. Despite defeat the opponents were incredibly gracious and very single one of them congratulated Peter and called him Neuer and said he's going to the premier league which was really nice, but funny too. The lows were an absolute pasting from a team that ended up moving jobs out 4 levels mid season where we lost 10-4 (and with the extra player rules spent most the match with 9 players). Even then though, Peter gave his all until the final second and continued to make some saves. An interesting stat is that he has faced 14 penalties in his season and a half (including pre season.) and has 8 saves! He still needs to be a bit more confident with his handling, but it's improving in training. And Myles continues to be amazing with him. Overall, a really enjoyable season where we bought two pairs of J4K gloves and he loves them! Well done to all the keepers in here, it can be unforgiving but also so rewarding. You all have a unique skill and I am so impressed with everyone who manages to pick the ball out the net... Get up and go again. If there are any grass root coaches in here, thank you so much for everything you do, especially those of you that hear about players who have had confidence shattered by other coaches, or been knocked back repeatedly but decide to help them grow as people and players.

Handling Tips
This might sound like a silly question, but my son got into footballing quite late. He Only started training about 18 months ago. Before that, he didn't even particularly like football. After about 4 months his teams Keeper left and he got his chance. He hasn't looked back and I'm continually asked if he wants to change clubs. He played the last few months of the U9s season as he been ever present for the U10s. His reactions, bravery and agility are insane. He's quick off his line and makes great saves look easy but, his catching is a weakness. At the park, he catches everything. On a match he palms things away and dives at players feet. He feels more comfortable doing that and has been kicked in the face, head, chest and elbow as a result. I've spent ages in the garden and the park, just chucking balls at him. High, low, left, right softer and harder. He catches 90% of them. Come the match he's too scared to catch it so re everts to palming it down and trying to claim the second ball. Does anyone have an idea or a routine for getting the catching transferred to a match day? I think it's partly technique but mostly confidence. I hoped repetition would help but so far it hasn't.
