Positioning 🧤⚽
One of the most overlooked topics in goalkeeping may as well be the most important one... I'm talking about positioning before the shot. Let's break it down:
General Rule of Thumb for Positioning:
"Stay in line with the ball at all times"
Now that that is understood, let's look at some scenarios to look at angles and positioning yourself according to the attacker traits, as well as 1v1s:
  1. The attacker is through on goal; you are the only one who can defend. You decide to rush out quickly for a 1v1, but the striker just turns past you and scores or just shoots from the spot. Now how to prevent this? Simply approach fast, and when you get closer to the striker, slow down. Rush when the striker takes a heavy touch, so that they cannot shoot immediately.
  2. The attacker is shaping to shoot from an angle. What do you do? Firstly, before the match, it's always helpful to know what the attackers' preferred feet are. Then using that knowledge, as well as the attackers body positioning, try to see where he will most likely shoot, and try to save it there if he goes there. Also take note to close the angle if you want to rush, using the 1v1 technique I gave.
That's it! Be sure to watch the videos provided down below for some more insight and tips!
