Goalkeeper training feedback… should we expect it?
My son (U9-2017) currently does specific goalkeeper training once a week at a GK academy. Sessions are group-based, usually 5–6 kids per coach. In my case, I don’t see this as just an “extra activity” to keep him busy, but something focused on real technical development. Because of that, I asked for some feedback about him: how they see him, his progress, strengths, and areas for improvement. The reality is they don’t seem to provide this kind of feedback (at least not in a structured way or in writing), and it actually caught them a bit off guard. So I’ll probably end up having an informal chat with one of the coaches. They also don’t offer 1-to-1 sessions, which is making me consider looking for alternatives where we can focus more on individual development. In group sessions, they cover a lot of different things, but without really going deep into each kid’s needs. On top of that, my son also does specific training once a week in his club, with the same coach ratio than the gk academy. They do provide a report at the end of the season, but I’d like to understand where he stands right now and how they see him, so I’ve asked to meet with the goalkeeper coordinator. So here’s the more direct question: If we’re paying for specific goalkeeper training… shouldn’t some kind of individual feedback be included? Even something simple: a few key points, progression, and what to focus on. How is it for you? Do you get that kind of feedback, or do you have to chase it yourselves?

Is it an actual ‘academy’ type set up or is it just goalkeeper training with academy in the name? If it’s just the name of the place then I wouldn’t expect a report unless it’s something you’re told you will get when signing up. I think 1:1s are great and very useful so if you’re considering starting 1:1s with a different coach then I would say do it!

Great saves both of you! 👏 Your coach sounds like he’s a lot of fun 🤣
When one season ends, another starts
So, that’s a wrap with our under 10s season and in a few weeks time we move on to something new that starts with us, and that’s a summer league. Unfortunately, Reevah will miss the start of the under 11s due to her injury but shes on the mend. How is everyone’s season looking? Any highlights and when will you go again? RBG🧤
