Sphere Hack: Using Cheap Sports Tickets to Reconnect With Clients
I recently posted a few text scripts that help you nudge your sphere of influence without sounding salesy.
I’m a big sports guy, so one thing I like to use is cheap local sports tickets to reconnect with past clients and friends. In San Diego we have things like the San Diego Gulls, Seals, Clippers, and minor league teams.
Tickets are inexpensive and it gives you an easy reason to reach out.
The idea is simple.
Find a local team and send a text like:
“Hey random question — I was looking at San Diego Gulls tickets. Want me to grab a couple for you and the family?”
Or:
“Hey I ended up with a couple extra tickets to the game. I can’t make it anymore — any interest?”
The goal isn’t to sell anything. It’s just to start a conversation. They’ll usually respond yes or no, and now you’re back in touch.
You can do this with:
  • Minor league hockey
  • Minor league baseball
  • Arena football
  • Soccer
  • College sports
Also, start networking with these teams and venues. Many of them give away free or discounted tickets to people who partner with them or bring groups.
It’s a simple way to stay in front of your sphere and give them something fun instead of another “thinking of you” message.
I attached the text scripts I use below.
Question for everyone:
What’s the best text opener you use to reconnect with your sphere?
