I want to step away from bread for a minute and tell you what just happened.
Twenty-two days ago, this community picked something up and ran with it. You decided, without my asking, to help get me to Emporia, Kansas, to watch my son Ryan throw javelin at the NCAA Division II Outdoor Track and Field Championships.
Here's what you did.
41 of you showed up in 22 days. You made this trip possible.
Some of you gave $10. Some of you gave $100. Every one of those donations was a hand on my shoulder saying go be there. And because of you, I will be. I leave Friday afternoon. Ryan throws Saturday, May 23 at noon Central.
I want to name you, because grace deserves names.
@Angela McKay, , , , Dorney, @Dalton Kendig, r, , , , , @ehsan omaraa, , , @john stevens, , , @Linda J gregory, , , @Matthew Davies, , , , , , , @Teresa Smith, @Tim Norwood, , I have your names. I'll be reaching out to thank each of you personally.
The same hands that knead bread on Saturday mornings are the hands that lifted my family this month. That's not a coincidence. That's a community.
I'm closing the GoFundMe today because we hit the moment. I want to celebrate what you've done, not ask you for anything more.
Two requests before I sign off.
Send a prayer or a good thought toward Emporia on Saturday at noon Central. That's when Ryan steps onto the runway. I'd rather feel this community behind him than have a stadium full of strangers.
Keep baking. I'll be checking in with you throughout the weekend, keeping you posted on our progress and checking in on yours as you bake Saturday.
Thank you for proving, again, that this isn't just a place where we share recipes. It's a place where we show up for each other.
With deep gratitude,
Henry
