Really grateful for my wife to be at home today looking after her two-year-old. She’s sick with a cough and a runny nose, and it makes me remember a few essential needs that I consider are really good for kids:
- Strong, constant attachment to caring adults who are truly present
- The security of knowing they don’t have to work or perform to keep their parents' love. They can simply rest in it.
- The freedom to feel and express all of their emotions fully, without rejection or shame
- Structured free play in nature. Not screens, not apps, just real open exploration.
When these four needs are met, children thrive. When they’re missing, the damage shows up later in life.
What are your thoughts on this? Do you have principles for children that you follow?
