HELP: Facebook ads to grow paid community?

Has anybody had success growing a paid community with FB & IG ads?

My Dilemma:

Should I run ads to my free community, and try to upsell the free members to a paid community?

Should i run the ads directly to the $49/ month paid community?

Or, should i run ads to a VSL landing page > paid community?

Also, should the i be doing traffic or leads ads since you can’t track conversions?

So many questions!
