SOTD: Le Labo Mousse de Chêne 30 (Amsterdam) 🌿
Test Day #3 of 5 of my Le Labo City Exclusive set. First, quick follow-up on Poivre 23 (London) from yesterday: I’d revise my initial take on performance. Projection/sillage ended up moderate to strong, and longevity was excellent — my sons even commented on it while we were grocery shopping 8–9 hours in. The notes stayed fairly linear in the dry-down (pepper, woods, amber) — beautiful, but for the price I’d only call it FB-worthy if it were more affordable. Glad to have had the chance to wear it.
Now onto today’s test: Mousse de Chêne 30 (Amsterdam). Before peeking at notes, here’s what I jotted down:
  • Application: Sweet, soft woody. Reminded me of a cedar/pine chest of drawers.
  • Some spice shimmer (clove/nutmeg vibe).
  • Even caught a peachy nuance and something floral hiding, like honeysuckle.
After checking, and with some help from ChatGPT to unpack it all:
  • The name translates as “Oak Moss 30.” (“Mousse” = moss, not dessert; “Chêne” = oak, not dog 😅).
  • It’s built as a neo-chypre — moss + patchouli boosted with crystal moss & clearwood, spiced up with cinnamon, pimento bay oil, and pink pepper.
  • Chypres are a perfume family built on citrus top / floral-woody heart / mossy earthy base. Not to be confused with fougère, though both share an oakmoss foundation.
No surprise, then, that I was catching moss/wood, spice warmth, and that fruity/floral lift. Very pleasant and elegant — traditional yet modern, just like the Amsterdam vibe Le Labo describes.
I’ll keep wearing to see how the dry-down behaves. Anyone have/tried this one (or Poivre or Osmathus)?
