SOTD: Joop! GO by Joop!
Been running 60hr weeks lately so I reached for something bright to lift the mood Joop! Go. Released in 2006 by perfumer Sophie Labbé, is a clean woody aromatic that feels worlds away from the iconic, heavy pink‑juice Joop! Homme that dominated 90s dancefloors. Where that one was bold, sweet and loud, Go is all fresh green energy, it’s like the brand hit reset, stripped everything back, and went for something lighter, sharper, and far more everyday. It’s decent enough, but it never tries to be the powerhouse its older sibling was.
It opens with that crisp, mouth‑watering mix I was after: tart rhubarb, zesty bitter orange, and a faint prickly kick of pimento that adds just enough spice without ever turning hot. That green, fruity freshness stays front and centre for the first hour, nothing heavy or cloying here. As it settles, softer aromatic notes take over: violet, cypress, and geranium keep it smooth and herbal, grounding that bright start. The drydown brings gentle warmth with balsam fir and soft musk, it’s clean, comforting, and never gets too woody or dark.
The scent itself is lovely, but strength is its biggest flaw. It’s undeniably weak I get 3–4 hours tops before it’s basically gone, with very soft projection for the first hour only. You can absolutely douse it, though: I paid €30 for a massive 200ml bottle, so over‑spraying doesn’t hurt the wallet. Even then it fades fast, so you’ll want a travel bottle for top‑ups. It’s at its best in warm weather, heat does help it carry a little better, but it’s never going to be an all‑day scent. Great value for what it is, just don’t expect anything more than a short, sharp fresh kick.
