The One by Dolce & Gabbana is a Woody Spicy fragrance for men. It was launched in 2008 and the nose behind it is Olivier Polge.
This fragrance opens withe a bitter citrus aroma from the grapefruit, followed by a woody, spicy note from the coriander. Basil brings a fresh, aromatic herbal note that adds a touch of greenness.
In the middle is an effervescent ginger with a subtle piney nuance. A sweet and spicy cardamom keeps the spice theme going while a sweet orange blossom adds a fresh floral facet.
At the base is a warm, cozy amber enhanced by a subtle and restrained tobacco note. Rounding out the fragrance with a rugged edge is a note of cedar wood.
This fragrance embodies masculinity with its collection of spicy, woody, and tobacco notes. It can be worn casually but would be more in its element on a date or night out. But it's also subtle enough to be worn at the office. This is better for the fall, winter, and early spring months. The One has a classy, elegant feel to it that inspires confidence and can add that extra, unseen element to a man's style. Experiencing this fragrance has really started to make me realize how much I enjoy spicy scents. It's one of the main reasons for my love of PDM's Herod.
Performance is wear this fragrance really falters, though. Longevity is quite lacking at around 4 hours, with about 3 of those hours only being a skin scent. Projection is almost nonexistent. You might get a foot or so during the first half hour. Sillage is also very minimal. However, I enjoy the scent enough to now really want to get The One EDP, which has the exact same note breakdown, and is just more intense. So it should smell identical, only with better performance. I'm also looking into The One EDP Intense. However, that fragrance has a totally different note breakdown, but it sounds fantastic in its own right. Overall, I really love the scent but just wish it had more oomph to it. More projection, sillage, and longevity. Which is weird because usually I'm complaining about something being too strong. 😂 Still, it's a great introduction to "The One" line!
