Most of us know Davidoff for the classic that is Cool Water. But on my search for an elusive bottle of Zino, I stumbled across this one instead. How many fragrances can claim to have Obi‑Wan Kenobi as the face of their advertising? Okay, it’s not actually Obi‑Wan, it’s Ewan McGregor, but it’s close enough! I’d say this one brings perfect balance to the force thanks to its creator, Antoine Lie. Released in 2008, it’s no weakling but never overpowering either. Think of it as the grey Jedi of the fragrance world, neither fully light nor fully dark, a nicely balanced woody/spicy scent that opens with a really pleasant touch of citrus.
For ages I struggled to pick up any proper notes from it at all. On numerous occasions I’d spray it on, going so far as what felt like a full‑on fragrance‑induced spraying seizure, and still get barely anything. But I stuck with it and it clicked, and I’m really enjoying it. It opens with a sweet, fresh burst of mandarin, orange, bergamot and lemon, lifted by subtle tea leaf and a pinch of black pepper to keep it grounded. The heart lists sesame and pimento berries, but honestly I’ve never once picked those out — it just feels like a smooth bridge between the top and base. It settles into a solid woody finish of cedar, vetiver and a really clean, soft musk that wraps everything up nicely.
So glad I stuck with this one. It’s not a super performer by any means, but it smells damn good. I get about 5–6 hours on skin, with soft‑moderate projection, enough that people near you will catch it, but it never shouts or lingers aggressively in a room. It’s totally versatile: smart enough for work, easy enough for casual days, warm enough for cooler weather. No apologies for the Star Wars references, yes, I’m a total geek! I picked this for around €32, and for that kind of quality and price, it’s an absolute steal.
