Raw Materials - Ylang Ylang
Ylang Ylang, pronounced “LANG-LANG” (American English) or “yee-lon yee-lon” (Native Ethic) is derived from the flowers of the Cananga odorata tree. It’s celebrated for its sweet, exotic fragrance often described as floral, fruity, and slightly spicy. Native to tropical regions, particularly Southeast Asia, the flowers are typically harvested at night when their aromatic oils are most concentrated. The delicate blooms are carefully picked by hand to avoid damage, and they are then subjected to a process called steam distillation to extract the essential oil. This method not only preserves the flowers’ enchanting scent but also captures their full aromatic profile, making Ylang Ylang a prized ingredient in perfumery, skincare, and aromatherapy.
Ylang Ylang is a unique and versatile ingredient in men’s fragrances, offering a lush floral complexity that can elevate a scent’s character. Its rich, sweet aroma often serves as a surprising contrast to traditional masculine notes like woods and spices, creating a harmonious balance that adds depth and intrigue. Ylang Ylang’s slightly fruity and exotic qualities can evoke a sense of adventure and sensuality, making it an ideal choice for both bold and refined compositions. When blended skillfully, it enhances the overall fragrance, lending a touch of elegance and sophistication that appeals to those looking for a signature scent that stands out while remaining distinctly masculine.
When I smell Ylang ylang: Imagine a place where the air is thick with a heady floral sweetness of fresh blooms. That’s this. The aroma is intoxicating, a blend of floral richness and slightly fruity undertones that feels both exotic and invigorating. It’s as if I’m wandering through a lush garden at dusk, the warmth of the evening air mingling with the soft perfume of the flowers. It doesn't fill the room, but it doesn't disappear, it's just right! It feels firmly unisex, the floral component doesn’t overwhelm. There’s also a complexity to it that piques my curiosity, a sensuality that makes me feel alive and confident.
