Rack Store Find: Citizen Jack Open Road, Michael Mulal
I got this one as part of a trifecta of Michael Mulal fragrances. Two more of the Gent Scent collabs after the first one I got, Jet Black, was very wearable and well constructed scent. I will be sure to review the other two I got with this one that were two more of the Gent Scent Crossovers, but wanted to wear this one today as it matched the Friday vibes I wanted to go for.
First off of the different variations of this citizen. Jack, I think this one is the one that spoke to me the most as the others had some notes that I was not as excited about like melon. This one opens with ginger and citrus opening that is quite nice and not overly in your face quite subtle in fact.
There is an airiness to the fragrance that sort of gives off the feeling of the golden hour and wide open skies. Not sure if the name is shaping that or it's aptly named? Probably just a chicken egg /cart horse.
My one knock on this one so far is that it is subtle and airy. I put on about four sprays a couple of hours ago and it's really sitting close to my skin or I'm nose blind. Now that's not necessarily a bad thing. If you don't want to be beast mode intensity. Also, I tend to wear a lot ofElixe, Parfum and EDP concentrations and even fragrances like Spice Bomb can disappear into my skin at times.
But if you do pick this up for a good price, a few extra sprays or some sprays on fabric might give it a bit more lift and push. I would say that the subtleness and pleasantness of the opening citrus and ginger is worth the top up especially in say an office setting where it might give a slight air of mystery and undeniable masculinity. Also, the vanilla and Tonka are not overly sweet. It's more the spicy vanilla, as I feel like there might even be a bit of cinnamon in there somewhere. Juniper berries can sometimes have a bit of a spicy horacious note as well, so the interplay between what is a very simple note breakdown is not groundbreaking, but quite pleasing. I don't know why, but it's giving me vibes of the now discontinued YSL L'Homme de Nuit Blue electric, probably that citrus and ginger open. I do admit though that that is just a nostalgia memory as I never scored a bottle and my samples of that fragrance are long gone at this point.
So this could potentially be a date night fragrance as well depending on the dry down and projection and vibe.
Notes are pretty simple:
Ginger and Citrus up top
Juniper berries in the mid
Vanilla and Tonka in the base
If you can get it for 40 bucks or less or even get your nose on it somewhere, it's at least worth a sniff, especially if you like that sent profile.
Wishing everyone on here a wonderful end of week and transition into February.
