Pulse Points pt 2
Sorry to bring this up. I hope you’re not tired of me talking about the same thing again. Some time ago, i posted something about pulse points being a myth. You can read it through the link here:
Now i came upon an article that says that it is just purely tradition when we apply perfume on our neck and wrists (pulse points). “The traditional belief is that the pulse points are places where the body generates extra heat and this can intensify the fragrance. There’s no evidence to support this.” So i was right in assuming that the difference in temperature between pulse points and other parts of the body is so minimal that it doesnt really make a difference. The reason why we spray in those points was because perfumes back then were highly concentrated and came with stoppers (not sprays) where women would rub their wrists on to get the essential oils, and then rub behind the ears using their wrists already wet with oil. Due to their potency, the fragrances back then were rich enough to project from their bodies.
Nowadays though, perfumes are structured with top, middle and base notes where the top projects but disappears in a few minutes, the middle in a couple of hours and the base hangs on the skin evaporating last. Spray products are more top heavy while roll-ons or lotions last longer but are less intense.
After knowing that where do we spray then? The perfumer in the article recommends spraying instead where it will “catch the air,” a great point made in my last post. See its not really just about temperature but exposure to air, where the scent is supposed to evaporate to that will determine if people will actually smell you or not. That could be your hair, in your arms where there’s hair too (unfortunately/fortunately i dont 😂) or your clothes. The oils will sink into the fibers of your hair and fabric and will take longer to evaporate. The takeaway is that today’s formulas are advanced enough that it will “lift-off” anyway wherever you put it and it wont really make a difference whether you put it on your pulse points or any other part since temperature difference between them isnt significant enough.
So, if you want other people to smell you, arms, clothes, hair, basically where there’s more exposure to air and more movement to help it disperse. If you want to keep it intimate, go pulse points. I’d probably do both.
