Match #3
Match #3 in my 40-fragrance, double-elimination tournament wasn't much of a contest. It paired #29 seed Azzaro Chrome against #36 seed YSL Y Le Parfum.
Azzaro Chrome (1996, created by Gérard Haury) is a classic fresh fragrance built around citrus, aquatic notes, rosemary, jasmine, and musk. It's clean, easygoing, and perfect when you simply want to smell fresh. There's absolutely a place for that, but it doesn't offer a lot of complexity.
YSL Y Le Parfum (reformulated in 2025, created by Dominique Ropion) takes the familiar Y DNA and adds more richness with apple, aldehydes, sage, tonka bean, patchouli, and woods. It feels deeper, smoother, and lasts significantly longer on my skin.
I enjoy both fragrances, but this one was a comfortable win for me. Chrome is a solid everyday freshie, while Y Le Parfum keeps my attention from start to finish. Y Le Parfum advances to the next round, and Chrome heads to the loser's bracket.
