Whazzup everyone!!
And our final decanter in my review, we have: Scent Split. Wow, Scent Split, uhm, yeah. No one can really go online to any fragrance social media outlet and NOT hear about Scent Split! They are everywhere and probably the single most promoted decanter amongst all the who’s-who fragrance influencers. Even the spiel is uncannily similar! I also believe Scent Split is more active in the fragrances groups due to their amazing speed in responding to comments/criticisms. Signs of good customer service…..maybe. So, I’ve only ordered a couple of things through Scent Split, their website is a bit clunky and needs some updating. They also need to stay on top of their pricing as errors sometimes results in “too good to be true” deals! Scent Split, to their credit, did have the highest number of available fragrances, well over 3900. They have the most common fragrances across designers and niche and also have some harder to find indie. Fragrances can be grouped by gender, brands and by top picks. They can be sorted by notes as well. Also, and this refrain may sound familiar to you too: “Available sizes are 1 milliliter, 2 milliliter, 5 milliliter and 9 milliliter” Yeah, as for different sample size options, 4 is just average among this group.
As of this review, prices for a 5ml of some common frags are: Naxos (26.99), Layton (19.99), Angel’s Share (34.99) BR540-EDP (Not Available at the time), Aventus (27.99) and Cedrat Boise (16.99). The sample I purchased for these reviews is Cedrat Boise - 5ml.
Pricing of representative sample frags was well above average for the group, even after adjusting for the lack of Baccarat Rouge 540. The average pricing across the samples was also higher than the average for the whole group. The only thing I could possibly interpret as a “perk” is the VIP Customers section (for those that create an account). Every now and again, a 10% discount code would pop up here. That’s it. Speaking of discount codes, that’s the only type I could find on the internet. The best I’ve ever seen is a 12% code, seldom and randomly given out. Shipping options are so-so at Scent Split, offering a sparse 4 different choices. The one thing I did notice was that Scent Split ships worldwide. That’s just enough of a nudge to get a point in this category. Scent Split also works with SHOP, a free app that helps you securely sign in, helps track your packages, and rewards you in SHOP Cash for purchases made using the SHOP app. A much needed perk in an otherwise sparse field!
After discounts and standard shipping, the total cost at Scent Split ran me 20.28 USD which was way, way above the average of 14.63 amongst the five decanters, ranking dead last in affordability. I ordered on Monday and received my package on the following Monday (TX to FL). Shipping packaging was a standard pliable envelope that always makes me worried about the contents. The decant is a thick bottom 5ml glass vial. A nicely printed label indicates the name of the fragrance, the website, but not much else. The standard shipping was through USPS Ground Advantage which is now insured up to $100.
My experiences with Scent Split have been lack-luster at the very best. I received emails when I make the order, when the order was shipped, when the order was delivered, and later, how was my order. Standard set of notices in this highly automated world of ours. Shipping time made sense, considering it was coming in from middle America, but hey, if I can get something similar shipped in from CA faster, why not from TX? Although my data was using a single decant test, I’ve personally had larger orders take a bit longer to get to me. Decant packaging was on par with most everyone else. Joe Average take: No. Prices are way too high, but how else are the promoters going to get their cut? Anyways, the number of available fragrances is outstanding, but high prices just makes it good window shopping! Not the worst out there, but not one of the better ones. Potential greater than effort! SCORE 4/10
