Fragrance Profile: Bold opening notes of freesia, mandarin, and cassis leaves melt into mid notes of molten myrrh, labdanum, and balsam. Woody base notes of patchouli, smoked agarwood, and sandalwood layer for a heady, sensuous undertone.

My take: This was a surprise gift received yesterday and it wasn’t even anywhere on my radar from MM. I classify this as masculine and easily see it as one that fits into my Autumn/ Winter rotation. It’s so good- seriously, it’s one that isn’t for those who kinda enjoy wearing fragrances, it’s created for the one who enjoys collecting and wearing parfums. My start with Michael Malul began a few months ago when I received a gift in late Summer, then made a blind purchase just a month ago: Amber+Smoke.

On first impression, this fragrance has a dimly lit bar feel to it. The website says speakeasy, and I couldn’t agree more. I enjoyed a cigar and wanted a drink so bad- an old fashioned really. The notes of this fragrance are much like the aromatic version of that drink. It’s a primal, masculine scent with some heft in sillage and strength; I applied it at 9:15 pm and could smell it this morning at 8:00 am. The dry down reveals smoky and woody notes that had me smiling *reflectively (read on).

The emotional reaction in wearing this has me feeling confident in feeling masculine, assured any decision I make is the right one, a bit cocky like I can’t be touched or even be bothered by those who aren’t on my level, and sexy- not sensual, but attention grabbing sexy that sees me irresistible.

(*Just so happened I did have a mini make-out session walking someone to their car). This unexpected gift was one of four actually, which I will review this weekend- including one everyone has been raving about.

Finally, I say it a lot and it’s true: the universe takes care of me. I must be dialed into it in such a way that things have a way of being gifted to me. Not like I request or zone in on something specific (like winning the lottery) and getting it, but more like the alternative in surprises, gifts and people entering my life. My friend could smell one of her other gifts on me, asked how I was feeling. I replied with tears in my eyes, and understanding of my place in my local scene and community, and a continued promise I would wear this one weekly too.
