“Why am I always so surprised when things go wrong??”
That was the question that popped into my head while I was doing my daily asana/yoga practice.
{Stick with me on this one, kids. It’s a long one 🙃}
It actually stemmed from a conversation that I had with an old friend on Saturday. He was talking about one of his trips to Korea, and he shared how their mindset is so different in Asia.
Here, we’re always so surprised and upset when things go wrong/not according to plan.
But up there, they have a calm understanding that things going awry is always a logical possibility.
And it was almost as if that query on my mat was subtle foreshadowing for how my morning was going to go…
I won’t get into the details, but let it be known that the morning **DID NOT** go as planned. 🥲
As I laid there with my fussy 11 month old, at 11:30A, trying to put him down for the THIRD time, I found myself getting pulled into the resistance of, “what is.”
Getting mad because so much time had been wasted, and I just wanted to be working!
I finally sat down at my computer, feeling tempted to say, “Screw it. The whole morning is gone and I have less than 2 hours before the girls come home from school. I might as well just give up and try again tomorrow.”
But something inside said, “Just stick to the plan. Maybe you started a little late, but just stick to the plan and run down the list [of to do’s].”
I’m writing this at 8:50P, and for the first time ever, I’m actually super surprised that things went well!
I finished everything on my list (and then some) in record time… AND I got dinner on the table on time! Trust me, that’s a solid win for me. 😅
If you made it this far, go ahead and drop a 🥳🥳🥳 in the comments, that way I’ll know who’s a G, in the group. 😂
Kidding, kidding.
But in all seriousness, tell me, how do YOU respond when the plan goes to 💩? Does it vary between scenarios and people??
