Music influences
Anybody have the typical older sibling music influence as a teenager? Is it something you’ve stuck pretty close to, some of which you still count as all time favorites or did your musical journey take you on your own somewhat different or completely different path? My older sister definitely had a big influence on what I listened to as a teenager. Typical 70s teen I remember it was bands like Bad Company, Montrose, Foghat. That was it until the first time I watched MTV in the 80s then everything changed.

An older friend of mine played Mellow Gold and Pretty Hate Machine when I was in middle school. Those two artists stuck with me. It was like a new world. As the older sibling, best I could do was warn my sister “Pink Floyd is a band, not a person.”
Listening Habits
Curious how people are actually listening right now. I play music for people in a room, in a box, sometimes in my own home. When you put on new music, are you Walking? Driving? Cooking? Lying on the floor?? At work with one earbud in. There’s no wrong answer. Just interested in the habits.

If I’m grading, KEXP. If I’m translating, I tend to stick to one album, depending on what I’m translating. (Weird, I know). Always listen in the car to a mix I have on Apple radio. Partner owns a record store, so jazz when I make dinner. But I never listen to music when I walk. I listen to nature or sounds around me. I may have a song or two in my head, but for as much as I walk, I don’t listen to music when I’m outside walking.
Album for Specific Mood?
Is there an album you only really listen to when you’re in a very, very specific mood? Like, any other time feels like the wrong time if you’re not in that mood? Kind of like an anchor? For me, Radiohead’s The Bends is the album, and it surprises me because I’m a casual Radiohead fan, but that album was there for me and is still is. Anyone else with that kind of surprise affection?

When I'm down, I listen to XO by Elliott Smith. It started over 20 years ago. Oddly, it brings my mood up a little. News reading leads to a lot punk during my commute. Open to suggestions of punk bands you all list.
