Listening Habits
Curious how people are actually listening right now. I play music for people in a room, in a box, sometimes in my own home. When you put on new music, are you Walking? Driving? Cooking? Lying on the floor?? At work with one earbud in. There’s no wrong answer. Just interested in the habits.

I work from home so it can be isolating. In a conscience effort to remove myself from my work environment and the related stress there can be, sort of a therapy is listening to music in the summer while walking. When the weather gets colder in KC area to get out of the house a bit on the weekends I take a drive and just kind of zone while listening to music. I also listen with one earbud while I’m working, usually to KEXP.
Music influences
Anybody have the typical older sibling music influence as a teenager? Is it something you’ve stuck pretty close to, some of which you still count as all time favorites or did your musical journey take you on your own somewhat different or completely different path? My older sister definitely had a big influence on what I listened to as a teenager. Typical 70s teen I remember it was bands like Bad Company, Montrose, Foghat. That was it until the first time I watched MTV in the 80s then everything changed.

@Benedetto Manzella The Linda Linda’s came out and signed stuff after their set. I think most people were there to see Green Day and Rancid so there wasn’t a huge crowd to get signatures initially. I got my Linda Linda’s t-shirt signed. They are really nice, friendly young ladies.

@Laura Lasser that’s so great!
New here
Hi - my name is Deanna. Love the idea of this community. Right now my favorite music is pretty much anything off Snocaps new release. My nephew and I were recently talking about how hard it can sometimes be to find new music we like. We don’t find Spotify or Apple Music especially helpful and it’s hard for me to listen to radio like KEXP during the day because of my job, and for him college. I’m hoping this community will be a valuable resource in my music appreciation journey.

My first shows of 2026!
I'm excited that my first 2026 show purchases are St. Vincent and Mavis Staples! And a recently discovered 2025 show - Corinne I saw your note and somehow didn't know that The Beths are coming here to Portland until last week even though I certainly look out for them. I'm happy to say that I'm going to see them on Nov 14 (the same week as Cut Copy and Neko Case!)

I’m going to Kilby Block Party in SLC again next May. They’ve got another great lineup so I’m getting a lot in with just that festival.

@Howie Cohen This was 2023, they were touring for Expert In A Dying Field. It was my album of the year no contest .
Top 50 of the year
It is that time of year where we dig into the best albums of the year. Now that we know that your "wrapped" list means we wrapped up not paying artists and supporting military drones and ice recruitment (it's okay that you used it, but sadly most companies turn evil at some point) you can wrap up with songs and albums and top whatever lists! SO with that in mind, I am putting together my top 50. Here is 41-50, I hope it inspires you: 41. Soft Loft - Modern Rose 42. Ribbon Skirt - Bite Down 43.Alex G - Headlights 44.Maribou State - Hallucinating Love 45.Dead Pioneers - PO$T AMERICAN 46. Neko Case - Neon Grey Midnight Green 47.Miki Berenyi Trio - Tripla 48.Night Tapes - portals//polarities 49. Horsegirl - Phonetics On and On 50.Destroyer - Dan’s Boogie A couple highlights here: Dead Pioneers (and Jesse Welles) are one of the only artists out there protesting directly with their music. I'm sure we'll see more but it they do NOT hold back. Night Tapes and Maribou State are a VIBE, early morning morning show and honestly if Alex G or Destroyer release something it is going to be on my list. What was YOUR 41-50? Didn't get there yet, well now you can put in the work!

This is really helpful, I didn’t really get a chance to explore much new music this year. I do like the Horsegirl and Alex G.
