Failure Connecting to Fabric DW via SSMS Using MS Service Principal Account
Can someone please help me? I've set up a Principal Account/Group in Azure and granted them admin permissions to the PBI Fabric workspace. I'm trying to connect to Fabric DW via SSMS using a Microsoft Entra Service Principal account, but I keep encountering a misleading error: 'ClientSecretCredential authentication failed: AADSTS700016: Application with identifier 'app:APPId' was not found in the directory 'My Directory'.' Strangely, I was able to connect via SSMS to the Analysis Service using the same service principal account, but with the server name as the PBI workspace URL. Additionally, I can connect to the Fabric DW using my Microsoft Entra MFA. Does Fabric support connecting to DW using a Service Principal account? If yes, I'm really hoping someone can point out what I might be missing.

@Eivind Haugen Thanks for your response. I am able to connect my SSMS to Fabric DW-SQlEndPoint using Entra MFA, but not with Entra Service Principal account, as shown in the attached 2 screenshots. @Will Needham is gratefully looking into this as well.

RESOLVED: I've identified the issue. When connecting to the Database Engine Fabric DW using a Service Principal in SSMS, don't use the format 'app:ApplicationId@TenantId' for the username. Instead, simply use the ApplicationId, which is generated when you create the Service Principal account. @Will Needham
