1st Script in Years
I just finished writing my first script since deciding to start my YouTube channel again. Y’all it’s been over 2 years since I have completed a script. I am over the moon and so proud of myself. Script writing is absolutely my nemesis so this is a huge win for me. Just wanted to share because this group and @Alexa Saarenoja has been such a motivator for me ❤️.

Good job! Every time I try to shoot without one, it's rough..
Do I need to incorporate B-Roll, screens with words/animations or is talking head enough?
I tend to overthink (Very relatable to my niche being anxiety, I know) Do I need to incorporate B-Roll, screens with words/animations? I have attached a link to my 3 videos (All relating to anxiety and mental health) https://www.youtube.com/@GeorgiaMaeB

TLDR is no, of course you don't need to. Just look at Alexa's videos! If you are really interested in doing it for some reason though... As, with most things I say try it. Try https://www.pexels.com/videos/ for free stock footage before you pay for anything. But, first answer the question why? Are you trying to increase retention? Communicate a point more clearly? Satisfy your own creative streak? It can add a lot of time to editing especially when you are just learning how to do it so keep it minimal at first to manage the learning curve. I spent literally 2 days trying to figure out how to animate text just the way I wanted to with FCPX, but now any time I want to do it, it only takes 15-20 min. And recently, I have been studying my retention curves and found some of my animated text (on full page "power point" style slides) is actually causing dips in retention. So, experiment, see how much time it adds to editing, and study those retention curves to see if it's working would be my advice.
A win isn't always found in the YouTube studio app
Good morning friends, My channel is mainly about learning how to be a dad (to 2 toddlers) while discovering my inner child. To date, the channel has mainly been about food, self-reflection as a parent, some dog content, but with my daughter's 2nd birthday being today, I decided to do something out of the norm, and out of my comfort zone and write her a children's book. I could've researched it for days on end, but decided to just go with my heart and write something I had no experience doing. To authors, I probably broke about a million rules, but sometimes it's better just doing. Doing the thing, as opposed to...reading about the thing, researching about the thing, procrastinating about the thing. Best thing sometimes is just to do the...thing. I guess that's the thing I got out of it and hopefully that can help others in their YouTube journey. Just do the thing. This is the only YouTube community I'm in and I just wanted to share this with the group. A group I'm most connected with to be honest, all thanks to Alexa. I guess the win for me is that I felt amazing being able to do this for my daughter, and the other win is my daughter is 2 years old. Sometimes the win isn't always found in YouTube studio, but in your soul. The video is below if you are interested in watching. Sincerely, Brian

Most Negative Comment Ever.. Didn't Bother Me
In the last day I got the most negative comment on my best performing video (20k views) and it didn't bother me. I actually thought it was funny and maybe even a little true, but I had no negative emotions associated with it. I have heard people say this is a part of YouTube is hard for them and who knows, maybe some day I will get a comment or feedback from someone that matters to me that will bother me, but for now I feel a weird sense of accomplishment that I got this comment and even though it was somewhat true, I just didn't care! Maybe this is a benefit of being one of those 40+ yr old (pushing 50) YouTubers that just "doesn't care" what other people think any more or that I do care, but only as much as it helps me take feedback and improve. Now, I did go and hide that commenter from the channel because I was a little worried that it could trigger similar negative comments like I have seen happen on some people's videos. This I regret *so if anyone knows how to bring a comment back that was hidden from the channel let me know because I think I would like to bring it back.*. It's not like the comment was inappropriate or blatant trolling or anything and I am now sort of wishing I used the opportunity to get more feedback on the specific reason why they made that comment so I could use that info to get better.
Video Planning / Content Calendars
Hi again. I'm interested in learning how everyone is staying organized, specifically around video planning / topics and/or a content calendar. I have my own but I'm not in love with it and am open to suggestion. I see some creators use Notion but I've not experimented with it. Here's what mine looks like, I just use Google Sheets. If anyone is eager to share, I'd love to take a look at what you use.

@Ty Myers Beautiful content calendar man! Question: Your screen capture only showed the past. Does your calendar look that good for the future as well with titles and thumbnails at least drafted? What am I using? I am using Thomas Frank's free video project tracker for Notion: https://thomasfrank.notion.site/Video-Project-Tracker-for-YouTubers-4fbb9d0c128142a5b7d6ccec69b1580c But, not really as a content calendar, more to capture ideas, flesh them out and take them all the way into production. I'm not sure I would really recommend it. I find it too heavy for my needs. Thomas Frank has a team of people so maybe it's more useful for people like that. I only have ideas (sometimes with titles and thumbnails) for the next 2 to 3 videos planned out and on my todo list, then I get them done as fast as I can which for me right now is taking 6 to 8 weeks. It's taking longer now because I am trying to be more consistent and disciplined about posting SEO content that I know will perform rather than getting in reps and sticking to a schedule. I think it just suits me better. I'm actually thinking about building this idea of a content calendar into that software I told you about. But, for me it would be less of a calendar and more of a idea funnel that suggests which videos to make 1st, 2nd 3rd etc. from a channel size and SEO perspective.
