It's FriYAY! How about a little This or That?
It's Friday! Let's kick back, have a little fun, and get to know something new about our fellow members with a little This or That. Car Life Edition - Music or podcasts? - Windows down or AC on? - Singing along or silent listener? - Snacks in the car or never? - Clean car or rolling dumpster? - Driver or passenger? - Parallel park or find another spot?

- Music. As much as I'd love to do the podcast thing, I can't take in information if it's only auditory. I need to see something (besides the scenery) to remember anything useful. - Windows down, unless I'm on the highway or it's 100*. - Singing along or silent listener? Depends on the song. - Snacks, lunch, water bottles...the life of an athlete and the Operations Parent. šŸ˜… - Clean car or rolling dumpster? Mostly clean. Just ignore the dog hair... and the barn dirt...and the empty tissue boxes...and the obligatory car blanket... - Driver. - Find another spot. (Same for turning left onto a busy road without a stop light. I'll go 3 blocks out of my way to either turn right or find a light.)

@Olivia Radcliffe Anything except rap, scream-o, and country. If I'm working with words, like for a blog post, I generally listen to video game soundtracks, techno, or trance. If I'm doing design work, I'll put on metal or rock. And if I'm driving, I put on My Random Playlist (that's its actual name) on shuffle and guess which song is coming next. It keeps my brain busy so I don't get distracted.
🚫 Worst business advice you've ever received – GO.
Real talk — not all bad business advice is actually BAD advice. Some of it is genuinely terrible. Just really, really terrible. But some "bad" advice is probably good advice for someone. Just not for you. Not for your life, your season, your brain, your family. "Wake up at 4:00 am and work before the kids get up." Maybe that's gold for someone. Maybe for someone else, that's a recipe for an absolutely miserable day. There's a difference between advice that's wrong and advice that's wrong FOR YOU — and honestly, learning to tell the gap has been one of the most useful things I've done in business. Because if you apply someone else's strategy to your life without checking whether it fits, it's not going to work. It's not! And then you're going to think YOU'RE the problem. You're not the problem. It was just the wrong map for your terrain. So I want to hear from you šŸ‘‡ What's the worst business advice you've ever been given? Bonus points if you tell us whether it was genuinely bad advice... or just completely wrong for your life. (I'll share mine in the comments.)

@Angela H And along those lines, "Done is better than perfect." I can see how that might be motivating to someone who just needs a metaphorical fire lit underneath them, but I have a hard time putting anything into the world that I'm not proud of. And if it's messy or incomplete? I can't be proud of it.
What are you building around? šŸ¤”
Okay, real talk – what are you building your business around? Not ā€œwhat’s your niche.ā€ I mean what’s actually in the background of your life that your business has to work WITH, not against. Mine - I homeschool my 6yo, which means my co-worker has opinions about literally everything I do and zero concept of office hours. 😜 I’ve got a home improvement project in some state of ā€œalmost doneā€ at all times. Laundry that breeds overnight. I’m also writing books and – plot twist – helping my son launch his own little art business, which apparently makes me both CMO and chief crayon organizer. My business doesn’t get to exist in a vacuum. It has to fit AROUND all of that. And honestly? That’s the whole point of this community. Not to teach you how to run a business like someone who has 40 uninterrupted hours a week. But to help you build one that actually fits YOUR life – the one with the kids, the chaos, the half-finished projects, and the dreams you’re dragging along for the ride anyway. So tell me – what’s YOUR business built around? Drop it below. I want the real version. šŸ‘‡

Building around being the Operations Parent (the one who shuffles the kid to and from school and activities, managing meal planning, walking the dog, routine cleaning); taekwondo sessions; reading for fun; and being neurodiverse.

@Olivia Radcliffe šŸ˜… Thanks, I made it up! Feel free to use it all you like! And yeah, my whole family does taekwondo. It started with me, then my wife joined, and now our daughter takes lessons too. It's great to have a family activity, but we all go on different days, so it can be a lot to juggle.

- Online or in-store? Depends. There are a lot of things (especially books) that aren't available in stores. But there are also some great finds (like books) that I wouldn't know about if I didn't browse in-store. So 🤷 - Impulse buy or research first? Again, depends! Something on sale or clearance (FOMO and scarcity work every time with me)? Impulse. Something big or pricey? Research. - Brand name or generic? Usually generic. - Shopping alone or with friends? Alone. Friends never want to go at my pace...or leave when I'm ready to go. - Window shop or buy something? Why would I go shopping if I'm not going to buy anything? This question is strange. - Thrift store or retail? Retail. Did the thrift store thing in college; no need to return to those days. - Amazon or support local? If I can get it cheaper, faster, or better (and know about it), then local. Otherwise, there's something to be said for the convenience of Amazon.
FriYAY! This or That - Summer Edition
It’s Friday! Let’s have some fun and get to learn a bit more about each other. Summer Edition - Beach or pool? - Flip-flops or barefoot? - Watermelon or pineapple? - Popsicles or ice cream? - Fireworks or bonfire? - Lemonade or iced tea? - S’mores or skip the mess?

- Beach or pool? Both, or neither, depending on my mood. - Barefoot. Even in winter. I hate shoes, but socks are worse. - Watermelon. Pineapple tastes like licking sunscreen. - Popsicles or ice cream? If you have a Walgreens near you, see if they have Oreo ice cream. It's a favorite at our house! - Fireworks or bonfire? Watching from inside, away from the mosquitoes. - Lemonade, especially pink lemonade. - S’mores or skip the mess? I'm an interesting one on this - I like s'mores, but in pieces. I'll eat roasted marshmallows, and graham crackers, and chocolate...but not all in one bite.
