Data on the dose-response of stimulus
With the caveat that no one knows that much of what’s really going on inside us when we exercise, let alone predict what a training stimulus will do for any given person, what are the best estimates of the stimulus delivered to the body in general and muscles in particular when an average person does 1 set of an exercise compared to 2, 3 etc. I’ve seen rough figures thrown around here and there but to my awareness there doesn’t seem to be a more robust formula or algorithm. Naturally taking a set to full enough knowable stimulus (MMF) is different to going to say 4 reps in reserve. I’m also interested to see the best estimates for such methods. Relatedly Is 1 set taken to MMF really identical or equivalent enough to doing 3-5 sets with for example 3 RIR? What tests have been done for someone to make such a claim with confidence enough to market their coaching services as such? Good research papers or well informed anecdotes will be appreciated. Cheers J
