Want to Make Your Writing Irresistible?
Ever try and write emails, marketing copy, Nomad School posts :) and realise no one takes any notice? You spend hours crafting emails, sales vids, or copy, but it all just seems to fall on deaf ears. It’s proper annoying, right? You're trying to grab attention, but it feels like no one's listening. Well, here's a wicked app I've been using that might just sort this out for you: The Hemingway App. You chuck your text into it, and it acts like an editor, showing you where your writing's losing its way. But here’s why I love it and what actually makes it unique from any other editor out there... It helps you dumb down your writing. Yes, dumb it down! Because, when you're writing marketing copy you wanna keep it simple. Aiming for that American 7th to 8th-grade reading level (or lower) is where it’s at... If... You want people to actually read what you write. Yes, if you're wondering, I did write this post using the Hemingway app. The free version is awesome, but if you're a serious writer then the Plus version with its AI is worth it. It’s like having a personal editor - for free! Give it a try and let me know how you like it in the comment or if you already use it.

I definitely have a bad habit of making my writing too complex. As a experiment, I took a passage that I wrote recently and pasted it into The Hemingway App and it reported that "4 of 12 sentences are hard to read" and "7 are very hard to read". It was quite an eye-opener to discover that everything I write is, basically, unreadable 🙂. Interestingly, I couldn't get the free app version to re-write it for me. So, instead, I tried asking ChatGPT to simplify my text. It did a pretty good job too, with the result that Hemingway then flagged only 2 sentences as hard to read. AI is definitely making it much quicker and easier for us to generate good-quality written content. But, of course, that advantage only lasts until our competitors have also adopted the same technologies.

@H Dubsy That's an interesting perspective, but it misses the point that most people in this community are actively seeking to sell their products or services online and therefore need to communicate at a level that is appropriate for their audience. We can either adjust our message to match the level of the readers or hope that they are prepared to work harder on their reading skills. I think the former approach is most likely to generate more sales. Edit: I'm also something of a tinfoil hatter, and I definitely resist attempts to make me comply with establishment diktats, but I am also pragmatic enough to accept that we sometimes need to flex our principles in order to see the success that we seek.
What skills do you have that could be of benefit to others in the group?

@Byron Watts Yeah, Turkey is a fun place to live (and my girlfriend is Turkish, so that helps with overcoming all the bureaucratic obstacles 🙂), but the economy here has gone crazy (inflation is upwards of 100%) so its getting harder to survive the instability.

@Niels Bach Welcome Niels. I think you'll meet some interesting and inspiring people in this community. I'm curious ... which trading platform do you use? I'm currently developing a strategy optimization tool for use with TradingView and would welcome your feedback as I get closer to launch.
Self growth read!
One of the books I saw Brett mention “The Compound Effect” in my opinion is very solid! The ideas and the way they are stitched together are easily that of over 100 books I’ve read in the last year. So for anyone that maybe looking to expand their mind, in my opinion, this one is a solid read!

Some great insights. I smiled when I read your comment about being a terrible listener and thinking you were the opposite. I wonder how many of us are equally guilty of that - I'm certainly a candidate for that criticism.
June 18th I'll be calling myself a Nomad!
Since the original "snowball effect" update, things are talking off at a really good pace. The success I am seeing now has made me realise that I do not need the in class position, and that when my contract finishes, I will be purely and exclusively online. My diary now shows 8 hours of paid tuition, and there is 3 trial lessons today, which will convert to paid classes. I have also been approached by an online company to pick up as many classes as they can offer, and although this sounds great, it means making a commitment to work, which as I explained to the boss, is not something I want anymore! The £$ of 11 hours work is £233, $294, putting my hourly rate at £21 and $26. I am pleased with the conversion rate of trial classes to paying customers. The next step in the services offered is educational consultancy, guiding students through the application process to UK universities from China. I have had 1 enquiry, I have priced myself at 10,000 rmb (£1096, $1383) for a service of document checking, and interviewing practice. This price is below what some students pay big corporations for. Here is a newsletter I am emailing out for consultancy, purposely withholding the fees! https://sway.cloud.microsoft/YHCAytasmDj6VnMr?ref=Link June 17th is my last day as an employee, June 18th I'm Nomading!

Excellent progress, Clive. Your plan for educational consulting is especially impressive, as it appears to offer you a huge step up in revenue, while still being attractively priced, relative to your corporate competitors. I bet you can't wait till June 18th.
Hi from the pirate island!
Joseph here, Nomad travelling the world. Currently living in the Dominican Republic. I teach Languages online. I make a decent income doing it but I'm looking to develop an additional source of income that is independent of my hours - or even something that I can earn from that is more independent work and less face-to-face online with students.

Welcome Joseph. That goal of decoupling hours from income an admirable one; I'm also working towards similar ends. Good luck with your work plans and your travels and please keep us posted with your achievements.
